Free Weddings in Dallas
Are you and your loved one shacking up without putting a ring on it?
If you want to get married but can't quite find the motivation to take the leap, perhaps you should think about joining the Concord Church in Dallas? Last month, Pastor Bryan Carter announced that he would join all congregants "living in sin" in holy matrimony — for free.
"It's as if no one wants to get married anymore; they want to enjoy all the benefits of marriage without the commitment," Carter told WFAA-TV in Dallas. "We're trying to change that."
Now, we mention this not because we're making any judgments about couples who live together without getting married, but rather because we think it's awesome to get a free wedding! On Sunday evening, 18 couples said their "I Dos" at the church. Nearly everything was gratis, including all the frills from wedding gowns and rings, which were all donated.
Michelle Mudrow said she and her boyfriend took part in the mass nuptials, "because we're trying to live right. We live together." Mudrow and her beau were not alone. WFAA quotes studies that show the number of unwed couples in the US has grown six-fold, and almost six million straight couples who live together are unmarried.
But Sunday's affair dropped that number by 18. Among the newlyweds were Marguerite Jearnigan and James Norris, both of whom are in their late 70s and widowed, and decided to make their arrangement official.
"It's nice to be blessed with a friend and a husband," Jearnigan told WFAA.
It's also nice to be blessed with a free wedding.
