Johnny Depp and the $4,000 Tip

Johnny Depp's learned the trick to why Chicago loved its gangsters.

As reported in the Chicago Sun Times, Depp was in the city last week for the Public Enemies premiere, and he swung by Gibsons Steakhouse a little before midnight with director Michael Mann (Miami Vice), co-star Marion Cotillard and about a dozen others. After three hours of eating and drinking, the bill reportedly totaled around $4,400.

Depp, wanting to take care of the waiter, nearly doubled the bill with a $4,000 tip. (Though apparently the bill and tip were split several ways by the guests.)

The waiter, Mohammaed A. Sekhani (no, it wasn't a hot girl), told Radar Online that Depp often came into the steakhouse while shooting Public Enemies and promised to return for the Chi Town premiere. Sekhani waited on the actor several times before, so Depp was apparently giving extra thanks for his service over several visits.

Talking to Radar, the waiter said, "Because he had visited us before, he calls me 'Mo' and I know exactly the way he likes to be treated. He may be one of the most famous actors in the world, but he is a very humble guy and a really cool dude. I have worked with a lot of stars like Sean Connery and Robert De Niro, but Johnny Depp is my favorite. He is a very soft spoken guy who is very charming and sweet — when I wait for him he doesn't like to be too fussed over and is not in any way demanding."

Public Enemies, starring Johnny Depp as John Dilinger and Christian Bale as FBI Agent Melvin Purvis, opens in theaters on Wednesday.
