DJ AM's Shoe Collection Set for Auction
Among the many amazing mixes and party memories that DJ AM left behind, he was well known for something other than his beat matching skills. It was his incredibly large shoe collection. This guy loved shoes. It's the stuff of legend and was documented on a specialty interstitial similar to MTV's Cribs, called Kicks.
Many remarked that AM's passion for shoes was his new "addiction." It was announced last week that AM's — born Adam Goldstein — estate will auction off his collection of more than 800 pairs of shoes to charity. All proceeds will go to the DJ AM Memorial Fund. The organization was created to address issues of addiction and recovery. AM died tragically over the summer after a drug overdose related to medication. He was prescribed painkillers following his 2008 plane accident, of which he and drummer Travis Barker were the only survivors. The auction began on Sunday, November 15.
The Las Vegas Sun reported that he has one-of-a-kind pairs of "Nike PlayStation Air Force 1s and one of 50 pairs of Eminem Air Jordan 4s, along with Supreme Dunks; Supa Dunks; Hyperstrikes; Air Jordan PEs; and other rare, retro and limited-edition shoes." Shoes will be added to the auction every evening through the first week of December.
News of the auction coincides with a new report that his estate is also pursuing a wrongful death claim against the manufacturer of the plane in his accident. According to a report from TMZ, AM's mother, Andrea Gross, amended the court papers this week, stating, "The crash ultimately cause Adam's death at a later date."
