Dave Matthews' Late Saxophonist Still Giving
This week marked Leroi Moore's second birthday since his summer 2008 death, and his philanthropic fund thought it was the perfect time to announce the charitable endowments that will continue even in his absence.
The Dave Matthews Band's saxophonist set up a trust that will make annual contributions to Toys For Tots, Habitat for Humanity, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, all organizations he supported during his lifetime. He's also setting up four-year college scholarships at North Carolina Central University, University of Virginia School of Nursing and to Albemarle High School (Moore's alma mater) for music students headed to college. Moore, whose birthday was Sept. 7, passed away on Aug. 19, 2008 from complications related to an ATV accident.
"LeRoi was one of the most generous people I have ever met, although he was very private about it," said Rit Venerus, Trustee of Moore's estate. "It is great to see that his legacy of giving will live on."
Moore, who first joined up with Dave Matthews in '91, is a founding member of the Dave Matthews Band. The group went on to become the highest-grossing American touring act in history.
