Do Something Is Doing Something Big With VH-1
There's big news coming out of legendary Apollo Theater tonight in New York, where Tonic is attending the annual Do Something Awards gala!
A well-placed source at the awards show tells Tonic exclusively that Do Something, the organization that empowers and supports young "doers," has inked a nice TV deal with VH-1 that gives the awards a TV home for the next two years. Network execs and Do Something say to expect a blow-out event on the network, which definitely knows how to put on a good show. Our sources say to expect something in line with the MTV Movie Awards (minus the Bruno butt stunts, we presume).
We can't wait to see the show, which no doubt will shower even more well-deserved attention on the superstar kids that are honored by Do Something every year.
This year's awards go to five winners who all get $10,000 grants and scholarships for the efforts they've made in their communities. A grand-prize winner (to be announced at the show) will net a $100,000 prize in community grants.
Stay tuned to Tonic as we'll have the full story from the show, plus features of each of the award winners.
In the meantime, check out the highlights of last year's award presentation from last year's Teen Choice Awards show:
