Do You Do?
Well, do you? Do you do for others without worrying if others will do for you? Do you do for your community and those who need you and what you know how to do? Do you use your natural gifts and abilities so that others will benefit through you? In other, less Dr. Suess-ish wording, are you a Doer?
In light of David Cameron’s blog post about the Honda’s Doer Film, I began to realize that this term, “Doer,” might be more significant than many had given credit for in the past. Whereas once predominately defining an individual who enjoys physical activities or sports, it is important to focus on the application of the term as a means to help our fellow community members and beyond.
So how do you know if you are a Doer? Are you involved with community service or volunteer work? Do you donate your time, money, or resources to those in need? How about this — do you use your natural abilities to help those in need? If you have the natural skill of artistry, do you donate your artwork to a local group home or community center? If you were born with patients and enjoy working with children, do you donate your time to a child care organization such as the Child Care Resource Center? Do you have the gift of music, and if so, why not perform for a group of senior citizens or mentally handicapped?
If you answered no to any (or all) of the above, don’t panic! However, do not be shy to contribute to those who need your help online as well. Find out if you’re a Social Media-tor, and if so, keep at it! Fortunately, for both you and those in need of your good-deed-doing, you still have time to grow as a Doer. In fact, you have all the time in the world. Make it a point to ‘do’ for your community … and don’t forget about those who have used their resources to help you along the way.
