Do You Take Charity With Your Coffee?

If you’re lucky enough to be in Ontario, Canada, today, you’ll find yourself part of a “unique, refreshing initiative” called Pay It Backward Day.

The idea is to buy coffee for the guy or gal behind you in line at any participating Second Cup coffee shop. Every cup purchased for a stranger on September 30 will motivate a $5 donation from the event’s organizer, Daily Challenge (“a social network for do-gooders”) to SickKids Foundation. The goal — to raise $10,000 for the foundation — will require a lot of caffeination.

As if free coffee and the warm feeling of charity weren’t enough, the organizers are hosting some interesting events at the “Pay it Backwards HQ” (Second Cup cafe @ Queen St. & John St. in Toronto) from 1 to 3 this afternoon. One attraction is this kicking team of soccer freestylers, a show that will be worth $5 in itself. Watching these guys while sipping a warm cup of joe steeped in kindness will certainly brighten up hump day for some Toronto residents.
