Ticket Truck
It worked for tacos, crème brulée and even escargot. Now, the Los Angeles Dodgers want to make it work for baseball.
What we’re talking about is the increasing popularity of using the truck as a marketing gimmick. We thought it was limited just to food. But now Marketplace reports the Dodgers baseball team thinks it can sell more tickets to games this way, too.
Dodgers officials say that the big blue truck gets the attention of passers-by on the street and facilitates spur-of-the-moment sales: People are drawn in by the sight of the vehicle and truck-only deals like 2-for-1 tickets bring it home.
But it’s not just a marketing ploy. Dodgers fans say it’s more convenient for them to buy tickets at the truck when it comes near their neighborhood as opposed to driving all the way to Dodgers Stadium. It’s also better than getting the tickets online where customers have to pay a service charge.
If it finds half as much success as LA’s Kogi Korean barbecue taco truck, then we'd say this idea is a home run.
