Tennessee Man Gives the Gift of Free Gasoline
The holiday season is a time for giving, something Don Reed took to heart Tuesday morning. At a Citgo in Memphis, Tenn., for about an hour, Reed not only pumped gas for about 80 people, he also paid for their gas. The only reason he stopped is because he had run out of money.
Last year, when he asked Deepa Sangoy, the Citgo station owner, if he could do it, she didn't believe him, thinking he was joking. But she learned that he meant what he said, as did the fortunate customers who happened to be there when he passed on a little Christmas cheer.
And even though Reed didn't ask for anything from the people he helped, he did get something in return. According to this article on the WREG-TV Web site, he said, "I receive a lot more than I give on this. I know a couple of people it may have really saved their day. Maybe a lot them it didn't, but if it's one or two people then it's been worth it."
Amazingly, this isn't a one-time deal, either. According to the article, Reed will be back next year, on the same day, at the same time and the same gas station.
