Feel Good About Buying Wine
Don't get me wrong — I'm by no means promoting alcoholism or talking about the health benefits of red wine. ONEHOPE Wine, a wine company based in Newport Beach, Calif., is a for-profit business that donates half its profits to partner charities. That's right, I said half.
The company has eight founders, each under age 30, and they've been in business since 2006. What started as a mission to help out a friend with Hodgkin's lymphoma has become a company with an inspiring doctrine: "Giving back is good business."
In an interesting marketing twist, specific varietals go toward specific causes. Here's the list of varietals the company sells and the causes those purchases go toward:
2006 Cabernet Sauvignon — Autism 2007 Chardonnay — Breast Cancer 2007 Merlot — AIDS 2007 Sauvignon Blanc — The planet 2006 Zinfandel — Our troopsEach cause is tied to a particular charity. In addition, ONEHOPE has a private reserve 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon that gives 100 percent of the profits to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
ONEHOPE Wine is available in restaurants and stores in nine states, and online orders can be shipped to 33 states. Check the company's website for more information.
