Tonic Mixtape: Eclectic Method

Welcome to the age of video remixing.

In the first installment of our new weekly Mixtape series, we turn our sights to Eclectic Method, a trio of London natives who revolutionized the platforms of entertainment media. Formed seven years ago, the group — featuring Geoff Gamien, Jonny Wilson and Ian Edgar (left to right in photo) — combine fast-edited snippets from film, TV and music videos over tracks of original dance-beats and popular song samples. While stitched together into a seamless music track, everything in the mix also gets recreated on the screen. And there's no one, from 30 Rock to Fraggle Rock that's safe from a Meth mix!

The overall effect is an ADHD-immune, multimedia music set that's just as engaging whether one's dancing like a fiend or chillin' like a boob-tube coach potato. In a way, it's the best of both worlds: The girls get to dance and the guys get to watch TV!

While their bootlegs mostly circulate as viral videos, Eclectic Method is starting to ping on the national radar. Their remix of a show clip appeared on The Colbert Report, and Campbell Brown aired an Obama-puppy remix clip on CNN (because those news channels just can't get enough of that pup). U2 opened a concert with a Method video mashup, and Fatboy Slim's most recent DVD features an official video remix. And if you were at this month's E3 Conference, you'd know that video game companies are working the group overtime to create music video remixes of popular titles.

Since their live performance always spark a buzz, the trio is currently spread out between London, Los Angeles and New York City in an effort to reach more people. It's not easy trying to conquer the globe, but Eclectic Method certainly has the tools to make it happen.
