Editor's Choice: Payless Shoes for Kids
In celebrating companies who are doing good things to change the world, our very own Stefania sent me this story tip: Payless Shoes is contributing $1 million in new shoes to America's kids through grants to nonprofits.
The company is considering the first 5,000 applications from nonprofits by 5 p.m. Central Time on Fri., Nov. 21. If you are a nonprofit interested in participating, please apply today!
Charitable organizations eligible for consideration to receive the merchandise gift coupons for distribution to children in need must meet the following criteria:
Be a qualified independent IRC 501(c)(3) public charity. Be located in and primarily serve communities within the United States. Primarily provide emergency assistance and related case management services to children in need Have filed a Form 990 (long version, not EZ) for the most recent fiscal year. Please note that public schools and places of worship are generally not required to file a Form 990 and unfortunately will not be eligible to apply, unless they have set up a separate 501(c)(3) for fundraising or programs (such as a school foundation). However, many public schools and places of worship provide important emergency assistance services in communities, and they are encouraged to work with other nonprofit organizations meeting all criteria to submit an application. Be located in cities where Payless ShoeSource stores are accessible (coupons will only be valid in stores, not online). Be willing to serve all clients demonstrating need regardless of age, race, gender, religion or sexual orientation. Not require participation in religious activities or affiliation in order to be eligible for assistance. Have the ability to distribute all awarded merchandise gift coupons to underprivileged children in need between Dec. 5 to 24.Payless also provides contact information in case you have further questions: Call Michele Gray toll-free at 866-627-3440 or grants@greaterhorizons.org.
Tonic applauds Payless for helping out our kids in these economic pressing times. May many of the kids sport their new shoes in the new year!
