Edward Norton Attends African Bazaar for Maasai
Los Angeles got a little hotter Wednesday night as Africa descended on the City of Angels. Stars including Edward Norton came out to The African Bazaar for the Maasai, an event that brought celebrities together to show their support for the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust. You may remember, PUMA recently sponsored Norton on his New York City Marathon run. He ran with three Maasai warriors and 26 other PUMA-sponsored runners.
Norton arrived fashionably late and joined The Middle's Chris Kattan, Community's Joel McHale, 90210's Jessica Stroup, Park & Recreation's Aziz Ansari and Grey's Anatomy new resident, Jesse Williams. PUMA highlighted the organization throughout the event. The rented space was alive with lavish color, authentic decor, interactive activities and a special performance of traditional African music by The Very Best.
Walking among the Kente cloth decor and using the foosball table (a subtle nod to the arrival of the World Cup in South Africa next year), partygoers munched on traditional African-themed hors d'oeuvres and fawned over the PUMA collection of soccer cleats and trainers.
Guests walked away with a Maasai Tribal tee and a better sense of the organization's purpose. Based in Kenya, it supports the preservation of biodiversity with the Maasai tribal lands of East Africa by promoting conservation, education and heath services with the Maasai community.
The usually ultra-private Norton has taken to Twitter to document his commitment to the charity and even auctioned off VIP tickets to the event. It seems to be a lucrative attempt at extending the success of the marathon. Norton and his team of runners had raised $750,000 by race day, but now the new goal is an even $1 million or more. As of this writing, they are getting closer with nearly $900,000, so if you'd like to donate to the cause, check out his Maasai Marathon Web site.
