Emily Post Inspires a Movie of Manners
You wouldn't think a movie about manners would be a winning proposition, but Warner Bros is springing for it. The currently untitled romantic comedy will be about the late manners maven Emily Post, based on her bestselling book Etiquette, according to Variety.
We guess the studio decided that the popularity of the book — now in its 17th edition and having inspired a vast body of publications, courses and seminars — is proof that people will flock to the cinema to take in a story of proper comportment.
But will a movie touting the importance of minding our P's and Q's be a snooze? Not if it's similar to the celebrated film My Fair Lady. The idea is that the well-mannered Post character transforms a boorish man into a proper gentleman, just as Henry Higgins does with Eliza Doolittle. Let's just hope it doesn't end, as My Fair Lady does, with the man dutifully bringing Post her slippers.
The film will be created with the cooperation of Emily Post Institute and the approval of members of Post's family. Thank goodness for that; getting their buy-in is just good manners, after all.
