Esurance Helps Effort to Plant a Million Trees
Up until now, all that's really stood out for me about Esurance are those goofy animated commercials that pop up on TV. I mean, I know it's an auto insurance company and, really, what else do you need to know, right? Well, as it happens, the company also does some good in the community.
This month, Esurance will plant 5,000 trees in areas of California that have been devastated by wildfires as part of American Forests' California Wildlife ReLeaf program. I've been a California resident for more than a decade and can certainly attest to hearing about wildfires in the state at least a few times a year — and it's been getting worse, so this program is especially valuable now.
Each Earth Day, Esurance has a grant program and asks its policyholders to nominate their favorite environmental groups, and this year's recipient of a $5,000 Earth Day Grant was American Forests. The organization's California Wildlife ReLeaf program started in 1999 in response to how much of the state's land was being affected by wildfires. And according to this press release, the group's initiative has nearly reached its goal of planting 1 million trees in California's national parks and forests. Go to the website and every dollar you donate plants one tree.
