Father Doesn't Cry Foul When Daughter Throws Ball Back
Apparently 3-year-old Emily Monforto wasn't too happy with the foul ball her dad caught at the Philadelphia Phillies game Tuesday night.... because almost immediately after her father made an impressive grab, she threw the ball right back.
Steve Monforto impressed a stadium full of fans when he reached over an upper-deck railing and grabbed a ball. After some high-fives with the people sitting nearby he quickly handed the ball to his little daughter as a souvenir -- and Emily promptly threw it back toward the field. Her father initially looked shocked, but then laughed and gave his daughter a sweet hug.
"I think she was startled by the reaction of the fans around us -- there was a collective gasp. She was also startled by the look on my face. I just wanted to let her know it was OK -- that she didn't do anything wrong," Monforto told NBC Philadelphia.
"We play catch all of the time," Monforto added. "I think she was thinking, 'Oh great I'm going to have a catch with dad -- Dad gave me a ball, let's throw it!'" (Aww, he's definitely in contention for dad of the year.)
The funny incident has garnered national media attention, with TV crews camped out on the family's front lawn, and the scene has been frequently viewed on Web sites including mlb.com and thefightins.com. Fortunately, the Monforto family ended up not going home empty-handed on Tuesday. The Phillies presented them with a new ball, and reportedly have another surprise in store for the family.
Tonic thinks this adorable family deserves a good surprise after treating the country to some super-cute father-daughter love.
