Fit to Print for Free
The logistics of the job search can be demoralizing indeed — the resume revamping, the cover letter writing, and more. At FedEx Office, one employee thought there was something the company could do about it.
On March 10, the company launched “Free Resume Printing Day,” where the nation's 787,000 job seekers were invited to come to any of the 1,600 FedEx Office locations in the United States and receive up to 25 black-and-white copies printed on resume-quality paper. In just 24 hours, 24,000 unemployed customers took advantage, printing more than 853,000 resume copies.
The idea for the program came from a company employee who posted the suggestion on FedEx's corporate blog. Though the company doesn’t expect to repeat this exact program, they do say other programs for recession-weary folks may be on the way later this year.
“We understand that the economy has affected many people in a very profound way, and we want to help,” said Brian Philips, president and CEO of FedEx Office. “Printing resumes is one small way we can use our resources to help those who need it.”
Hey, during these lean times, every little bit helps.
