Ghouls Gone Wild

With apologies to my gay Greenwich Village friends, you no longer have the monopoly on flamin' Halloween parades.

For the third year in a row, the Flaming Lips will host an Oklahoma City hometown Halloween parade dubbed the March of 1,000 Flaming Skeletons. This year's event will take place on Saturday Oct. 24, the weekend before the actual hellish holiday, in the Bricktown district near Flaming Lips Alley. The ghoulish procession will include festive floats, inappropriately adorned cars and 1,000+ undead Lips fans howling through the streets of downtown.

Check the website for the full details, but here's a quick rundown. You must purchase 2009 Death March skeleton costumes ($40), which come in two sizes and include a t-shirt and a real torch. Last year's participants can reuse their skeleton costume but need to purchase a 2009 shirt and torch ($20). You must be 18+ to participate, and no bringing your own torch, Johnny Storm.

In other Lips news, the Grammy-winning group appeared on "The Colbert Report" last night and helped launch a new program in which certain guests stream full albums on the Colbert website. In this case, the site will stream the Lips' "Embryonic" from now until Monday. This is way cool because the album doesn't even come out until Oct. 13. "Embryonic" is the group's 12th album, and a video for the new song "I Can Be a Frog" (featuring Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs) will debut on MySpace on Tuesday.

So for all you Lips fans out there, flame on!
