"Flight 702 is now boarding and going nowhere...."
No, you are not at JFK Airport hearing the disappointing news that your flight is "delayed." Instead of sending an aged and retired 747 to the plane graveyard, Swedish entrepreneur Oscar Dios is turning the aircraft into a 25-room hotel at Sweden's Stockholm-Arlanda airport.
Dios is renovating the plane to include bunk rooms that sleep three guests. He is turning the upper deck into the "cockpit suite," which comes with a private bathroom and panoramic views of takeoffs and landings. The hostel will also host a cafe that will allow guests to stroll onto the wing to watch airport activity.
A basic room will cost 110 Euros. The cockpit suite will run wannabe pilots upwards of 500 Euros.
The hostel is tentatively opening this December and you can visit Jumbo Hostel for more information on the project and making reservations.
Geez - I just hope I don't get a middle non-reclining room!
