Fly the Barking Skies
There's no shortage of rescue animals that need new homes ... in fact, there are far more abandoned pets in America than households to take them. What happens if a pet in need finds a home hundreds of miles away with no way to get there? That's where Pilots N Paws comes in.
Pilots N Paws is a essentially a good-deed matchmaking agency, pairing pets that need long distance transportation with pilots that volunteer to fly them to their new home. The flight expenses are considered a tax-deductible donation and the ride often literally saves the animals' lives. On the organization's trips, pets are either switched from kill-shelters to non-kill ones or simply to loving families that can look after them. If only match.com went this smoothly.
The pooch pictured, Little Jeffrey, is a bichon puppy that was rescued literally hours before being put to sleep. Thanks to Pilots N Paws, he was whisked away to a no-kill shelter that eventually found him a great home. No word on what 3-ounce liquids he put in his see-through plastic bag (Alpo perhaps?), but — after nearly losing his life — we're sure his journey was the cat's meow.
