Football and a Farewell
I never thought that the summer would come and go this quickly. Here it is the last week of July and the last week of the Tonic intern program. As I said in my last article, I got sidetracked a little bit and pressed for time to write some articles, but I'm going to finish strong. Before I go on with my last article, I just wanted to thank Tonic for the opportunity to write for them and everyone who took the time to read my articles. I hope I get the chance to write for Tonic again someday — I think writing positively good news is my thing.
This past weekend I had the chance to watch my favorite sport in person for the first time. This sport may not be the most popular in the United States, and American teams may not always beat the great teams of other countries. This sport is soccer or, as the rest of the world knows it, football. Here is where I have some good news for you. Recently, four of the best teams in the world arrived in the United States to play both each other and to play a few select U.S. soccer teams. The game that I was lucky enough to attend was Chelsea FC vs. AC Milan (of which I am a fan). Although the Red-Backs didn't come out victorious — they lost 2-1 to Chelsea — it was still a thrill to have the chance to see both of these teams play with a crowd of over 70,000 people and to be able to see some of my favorite football stars like Ronaldinho.
Although the summer is coming to a close, there are still some games left with tickets available. Many of the games, including the one that I attended, were part of a friendly tournament called the World Football Challenge. The four non-U.S. teams are AC Milan, Chelsea FC, Inter Milan and Club America. Chelsea ended up with the most points. You can find lots more information about this round-robin tournament at WorldFootballChallenge.com. One game that is coming up, which I would love to be able to attend, is my all-time favorite team, Barcelona, playing the Los Angeles Galaxy. Barcelona will also play the Seattle Sounders. If I lived anywhere near these cities I would be at one of these games in a heartbeat.
If you're a soccer fan, I would recommend that you jump on the chance to attend one of these games. I guarantee you won't regret it since it almost feels like you're watching your favorite club on their home turf (almost - with all the fans). Good football (soccer, in America) has finally come to U.S. soil this summer. See you on game day!
And with this, farewell Tonic and readers. Thank you!
Editor's Note: Thank you, too, Thomas. We welcome your stories anytime!
