Frosty: More Than Just a Thick Shake
The late Dave Thomas wants everyone to celebrate Father’s Day. The man better known as the guy who brought us the square hamburger patty and super thick Frosty milkshake, is also the creator of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. The Wendy’s founder was adopted as a child and during his lifetime was profoundly committed to helping all foster children find loving and permanent homes.
There are currently 510,000 children in the United States foster care system, of which 129,000 are available for adoption. DTFA’s signature program, Wendy’s Wonderful Kids, operates in all 50 states by funding full-time adoption professionals in local agencies. Since 2005, WWK has helped place 3,000 children. As the initiative expands, they hope to meet their goal of finding home for 8,000 to 10,000 foster care children.
How can you help, you ask? Buy a Wendy’s Frosty (a sacrifice, we know). During Father’s Day weekend, Wendy’s will donate 50 cents of every Frosty purchase to the DTFA. You can also participate by sending Dad a Frosty eCard — create your own or choose one designed by celebs like actress Eva Longoria-Parker, or NBA star Alonzo Mourning.
And while that little donation may not seem like much, it all adds up: Over the 2007 Father’s Day weekend, Frosty sales raised $1 million and a whopping $1.7 million in 2008. So, get out there and buy your dad a Frosty!
