Get off your arses and Do Something!
By Dan Estabrook - October 16, 2008
Following up on our Tonic Events launch last week, the website Do Something ran a mention of our new party- and event-planning site yesterday in their blog "Celebs Gone Good."
Amidst all the fabulous craze of Fashion Weeks around the world, Donna Karan has taken time out of her busy schedule to back an online company that makes it easy for people to host parties for good causes. Last week, Tonic launched a site for anyone who wants to throw a party with a purpose, and is looking for an easy way to send out and manage invitations. Tired of all those e-vites, pinggs, etc? Well now there's a more sophisticated way of getting the word out about your next big charity soiree. Tonic allows you to create your own event page, set your fundraising goal, and invite all your friends to donate and boogie down with you! It's perfect for your autumn fundraiser or "no gift" birthday party. And the best part is, Tonic tracks all the impact from your party automatically. Petra Nemcova has already hopped on the Tonic bandwagon. (Check out her snazzy invite above for her Happy Hearts gala!)So whether you're looking to throw a Halloween party to benefit less fortunate children, or set up a mani/pedi night with the girls to prevent domestic abuse, check out Tonic to help you do good while still having a wild time with all your best buds!
Join Donna Karan and Petra Nemcova and throw an event to do some good today! I am planning to use Tonic Events to organize my wild and crazy ham and lasagna holiday extravaganza...with proceeds going to benefit a yet-to-be-decided cause (probably Toys for Tots or some other holiday-themed non-profit). As for Do Something, it's an amazing non-profit that empowers teens online to do more volunteering and other good things offline. Founded by Andrew Shue (remember Melrose Place?), Do Something is cool, hip and drives community change. Here are a couple of vids to learn more: It will all be easy -- getting today's teens to give some time; raising funds from my friends to help local kids who need a smile on their faces during the holidays. Hmmm. Now, all I have to focus on is making the lasagna. Oh yes, and stocking the bar.
