Get Your Game On!
If you're a gamer as I am, then you should know importance of last week. If you don't know what I'm talking about, the reason that it was a great gaming week was because of the 2009 E3 Expo. In the video game world, this event is one of the biggest weeks of the year, where all of the major video game companies present their latest and greatest products for the coming year.
Although to attend you must work in the gaming industry or for a media outlet covering the event, I was able to see much of the event because G4TV had live coverage from the gaming expo. News coverage was featured on a variety of websites from Kotaku to IGN — and basically everywhere else all over the Internet.
There were a ton of products that impressed me. These products included Final Fantasy XIII and the newest edition to the Halo franchise, Halo ODST. Companies presented new hardware including the new PSP (Playstation Portable) named the PSP Go. This new PSP is smaller, lighter and is a slider (the screen slides up to reveal the control pad). I know nearly everyone is familiar with the Nintendo Wii — everyone that I know wants one. If you are familiar with it, you know how it has motion-sensing ability that makes games even more interactive and fun.
Motion sensing was a big theme at E3 this year with new motion sensing products introduced for all three of the major systems on the market now (PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii). These products take the original motion sensing abilities seen in the Wii to the next level. In the Playstation 3 motion sensing demo, the presenter's motions were perfectly mimicked on screen with his painting, fighting with a samurai sword and even shooting a bow and arrow while reaching behind his back. Just think of the potential of this technology. I think that these were probably the most innovative and impressive products at E3 and you would probably appreciate them even if you don't play video games.
Hopefully one day, I'll write for one of these gaming media companies and will cover the event in person, but until then I'll have to watch all the media coverage of the impressive new products online. Also, as I said, you don't have to be a gamer to appreciate E3. This event has something for everyone from coverage of new games and products to "booth babes" (which I also like) to competitions where the record for the original Donkey Kong game was broken. I implore you to find out more information on products presented at the E3 gaming convention at some of the media sites I mentioned. I'm sure some of the stuff you read about will make your day as it has mine multiple days this week.
