Making Trees from Lemonade
When 10-year-old Sarah Connor learned about climate change, she started making lemonade. It may seem like a strange reaction, but Connor hopes that the money she makes from selling the refreshing beverage can go towards combating global warming.
According to a Newsday story, Connor started "Project Lemon Aid" after visiting a climate change exhibit at the Museum of Natural History in New York City. At Sunday's Cow Harbor Day festival in Long Island, Connor raised $94 selling lemonade in addition to the profits she raked in on Memorial Day weekend. At this point, the youngster has raised enough dough to plant three or four trees on Main Street in her hometown of Northport, NY.
Connor's been turning her lemonade profits into positive actions for about five years now. She started her first lemonade stand in order to donate money to benefit the victims of Hurricane Katrina, and since then, she's used her profits to benefit charities like Save the Children and the American Cancer Society.
