Global Green USA Rings In The Oscars
It's refreshing to see the little signs point to the fact that, when it's all said and done, Mother Nature will have the last laugh. Global Green USA's 7th annual Pre-Oscar Party which aimed to benefit the "greener cities for a cooler planet" initiative had the best intentions at heart.
The list of celebrities that showed up at the Avalon Hollywood to take in performances by Benji and Joel Madden, Camp Freddy, and Juliette Lewis included Tinseltown heavy hitters James Cameron, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Jessica Alba. Unfortunately, the message seemed to be lost on some of the partygoers, as evidenced by the armada of not-so-Green SUV's and limos that deposited them at the venue, and then parked themselves along the street to wait the evening out with their engines running. Cue the rain.
Despite a weather forecast that promised a typically clear Los Angeles evening, the skies inexplicably opened up and poured rain down upon the open air "Green" carpet. Celebrities rushed past the press line to find cover indoors. Inside, DiCaprio, who at one point could very well have changed his middle name to "Prius," took over a private balcony with his pals Lukas Haas and Kevin Connolly. Many of the celebs recorded an online PSA entitled, "I Am" which will soon be released on the Global Green site to raise awareness of the threats of global climate change.
The best line of the evening (which raised over $300,000 for the charity) belonged to Joel Madden, who quipped to the audience during his acoustic set with brother Benji, "We're very green. All of our songs are recycled."
