Gloria Estefan Is Paying For the Rhythm To Get You, Don't Worry About It
I love when entertainers take the pressure off our wallets. It's like they know!
Apparently, Gloria Estefan does know all too well, which is why she's reached into her deep pockets to gift thousands of laid-off government employees in Puerto Rico.
Estefan bought 2,000 tickets for a concert she is hosted in PR to be distributed by raffle to some 17,000 workers who expected to go through rounds of layoff and lose their jobs beginning Nov. 6.
Estefan bought all the remaining upper-level tickets as a gift to those who were affected, said Harold Rosario, a spokesman for the Cuban born singer. Tickets to hear the seven-time Grammy winner sing ranged from $40 to $125.
The reason for the layoffs: the Puerto Rican government is trying to close the gap on a $3.2 billion deficit. Fair enough. The country has been struggling, as they are now in year 3 of a recession with a 15 percent unemployment rate, higher than any US state.
