Little Mystery Behind Google's Double L Logo

Turning the age of 11 isn't viewed by many as a major milestone like turning 13 or 18 or even 21. But that didn't stop Google from doodling about its annual "birthday" event on Sunday.

The search titan's logo illustrated that it had grown one year older, with the typical underscored fanfare it's become known for when celebrating any sort of accomplishment or even a new product advancement.

And unlike the most recent Google Doodle events, which spurred conspiracy theories and Web rumors on whether Google was getting ready to launch something from outer space, the double "l" design was quickly dismissed by the blogosphere and Web world.

Even the link-through on the logo didn't result in anything spectacular in terms of content or even background about how Google came about.

Last week, Google acknowledged that recent Doodles depicting space ship logo letter abductions and alien-like logos in mid-September were all part of a thoughtfully planned out celebration of what would have been author H.G. Wells' 146th birthday. Wells wrote "War of the Worlds," and was cited by Google as a writer who "encouraged fantastical thinking about what is possible."
