What's the Real Story Behind Google's Doodle Today?
Now, if you're a regular Tonic tech fan, you know I love Google and all things doodled by the Internet search giant. It's a big fan of the arts, the sciences, and all the innovations and people behind them.
But I'm more than a bit stumped myself this morning after seeing this slightly unique Doodle on the Google home page.
But then again I'm the opposite of a sci-fi fan. The only science fiction thing I've ever liked was that television show about the uncle who was a martian. OK, I'm dating myself as I also liked that talking car show.
But I digress. This morning's Google logo spurred conspiracy immediately after it appeared, first apparently being spotted over in the U.K. The Guardian, a U.K. newspaper, surmised it must have something to do with a new Google announcement coming soon, given that Google did a semi sci-fi thing featuring an alien stealing the "O" from the logo last week.
Now the "l" is missing. What letter is next I wonder?
The only thing Google tweeted about today's logo was an image of the logo on twitpic that spurred lots of interesting comments.
Is Google debuting something unique next week? Maybe, though in the past, typical innovations have been lightly announced through one of their blogs, with very little fanfare.
Is Google trying out its new search advancements somehow? Could be, I guess. But given its past doodling and its sense of understatement as the classy route, I'm not so inclined to lean that way.
My Tuesday morning quarterbacking is that Google's just having some fun. And there's nothing wrong with that.
