Googlers Go Global in Giving Back
What’s that saying about how best-of-breed companies eat their own dog food? Well, in this case, Googlers do as Google does.
While the search titan continues to push President Barack Obama’s United We Serve "Give Back To Your Community" campaign, its own staff has been pretty busy on their own giving and helping efforts.
According to the Google blog, about 5,000 employees working in 60 of Google’s offices, stepped away from their desks in the past few weeks to teach, garden and support local cleanups as part of the company’s GoogleServe initiative which supports community service participation.
Here’s Google’s take:
“We've found that community service helps to revitalize and deepen our connections with the communities where we live and work, as well as bring us closer together as a team. This year we partnered with nonprofits, schools and local governments across the world on a wide range of activities.”
The list of projects in the past few months includes removing graffiti in Switzerland, painting murals with teens in both California and Israel, cleaning up beaches in Ireland and California and helping soup kitchens and homeless shelters in Egypt and Chicago.
Google workers also removed non-native plants from bay areas to protect native plant species, ran computer classes for seniors in Ireland and for Polish teenagers living in orphanages and fixed computer labs in Germany and South Carolina.
It gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "Google Goes Global" doesn’t it?
