Gorilla Love Hits London Zoo
Yeboah is his name, and flirting is his game. When the 20-stone (280-pound) blackback gorilla arrived at London Zoo, on a mission to mate the singleton female gorillas, he got down to business — literally. Now the 12-year-old primate is being hailed as the Don Juan of the ‘Gorilla Kingdom’ reports Britain's The Times. "Yeboah's a very charming gorilla,” says zoo keeper Daniel Simmonds, who adds: “He is having to quickly turn from a boy into man.”
The German-born hunk is quite the international playboy, having been brought from Zoo de la Boissière Du Doré in Western France to London Zoo last year in a bid to replace male gorilla Bobby, who passed away in 2008. Luckily, the starry-eyed ladies at the zoo, Zaire, Effie and Mjukuu have fallen for his charms — he's already mated with two of them and making advances on the third!
And for Yeboah, his new-found status means he can develop into a fully-fledged silverback adult male. “He lived with a silverback gorilla before which means that he has remained a blackback gorilla — but that's definitely going to change now he's dating three girls at once,” says his keeper, Simmonds.
He might be playing the field but he’s doing his bit for gorilla conservation ... so Yeboah we salute you!
