Grammy Charity Auction Offers Lifetime Experiences
The Grammy Awards are over, and while some of the big stories might have revolved around interesting collaborations (the Jonas Brothers and Stevie Wonder's performance had the most viewers of any of the night's performances) and some startling news (Chris Brown was arrested for allegedly beating his girlfriend, Rihanna), the Grammys also brought about something a little more important, if not as headline-grabbing — the Grammy Awards Charity Auction.
Grammy nominees (both past and present) are offering a wide variety of goodies for auction. Katy Perry, Kathy Griffin and DJ AM are auctioning off VIP experiences (you get a private DJ lesson with DJ AM (imagine how you could impress your friends at the next party!) — while AC/DC, Taylor Swift, John Mayer, Fall Out Boy and the Jonas Brothers have given signed guitars for the auction. Autographed books by Mariah Carey, Slash, and Celine Dion are available, or you could bid on a phone call from Aretha Franklin in which she'll share her favorite recipes.
Perhaps one of the most exciting items is a chance to visit the set of a music video or photo shoot for Rihanna. Plenty of other celebs — like Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, LL Cool J and the Foo Fighters — are giving up signed memorabilia, and it's all for a good cause.
Money from the auction will benefit MusiCares, which provides assistance to those in need in the musical community, as well as the Grammy Foundation, an organization founded in 1989 to further the "understanding, appreciation and advancement of the contribution of recorded music to American culture."
Here at Tonic, we love to see people giving back to their communities, and these artists are definitely helping to support their own by taking part in the auction. If you'd like to take a look and maybe bid on something, you have until Feb. 19. Go here for more information. And don't forget, if nobody calls your name in the Grammy auction, you can bid on celebrity iPods in the Tonic auction, which benefits Music Rising.
