Green Tech: New, cool and green
By Dan Estabrook - September 9, 2008
One of my goals in life is to help our readers make new and bold decisions on going green and doing good things. With that in mind, I share two cool and amazing new techie things to help you do both.
First, if you are obsessing about the fuel mileage of your 1973 El Camino, a new site lets you monitor and track your fuel impact by measuring your fill-ups in a community setting. Fuelly tracks your gas consumption over time and shows you how changes in your driving habits will affect your gas mileage. Just enter your vehicle by creating an account and entering your gas expenditures and see how your buggy pans out versus other people driving your identical model and versus EPA estimates. The site has a plug-in for yoru iPhone or other mobile device so that you can enter your information as you gas up (but remember, don't use your mobile phone while pumping -- you may explode which would negate using Fuelly in the first place).
Second, I have the "I want 'ems" for the new Sanyo all-in-one washer and dryer, which washes, dries AND recycles water. Coolness! Currently, its only available in Japan and Taiwan but will likely show up in the U.S. before long. Not only is this a green energy/water saver, I am excited for such an appliance in my tiny San Francisco apartment.
It actually recycles the same water from one wash to the next using some ingenious technology.
I guess my advancing age means that I get more excited about cool appliances and web sites, but I can't help it!
