A HALO On Your Side

With Breast Cancer Awareness Month coming up in October, expect to see articles running the gamut from the scary to the sublime on the topic. Cancer treatment, depending on the cancer, is a rapidly-developing field, as it should be, to foil the disease, and as it shouldn't be -- why are so many diagnosed with it to begin with?

Until we can prevent cancer, it's good to know strides are being made to try, most recently with the HALO, a new breast cancer screening test. According to the health and wellness website, Caring.com, HALO evaluates a woman's risk of developing breast cancer in the future. It's not covered by insurance and does not take the place of regular exams like mammograms, MRIs, ultrasounds or biopsies.

But in the "us" against "it" fight, it's good to be apprised of the latest tools and technologies, because if we can learn anything in the current news climate, it really does matter to be your own advocate.

That, and a good dose of whoopass, should it come to that, is always good, too.
