Vermont Veteran Gets Much-Needed Help

We're currently involved in two lengthy wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan, which means we have a lot of veterans who come home and need assistance. The Sears Heroes at Home program helps military families and veterans renovate their homes, and that's exactly what it has been doing for PFC Andrew Parker.

Rebuilding Together, which gets funding from Heroes at Home, will work with the community of Hyde Park, Vt., to modify Parker's home. Parker is 21 and joined the Army in 2007. He served in Afghanistan, where he was injured in a road side bomb attack. He's now a quadriplegic, paralyzed from the chest down. He's recovering at a VA hospital but can't return to his home until it's been modified to fit his needs.

The Hyde Park community has been actively involved, raising money for the "Andrew J. Parker Fund," and will be assisting with the demolition, building and modification needed to ready Parker's home. A Twitter member has been updating the Heroes at Home page profiling Parker, including links to photos. According to the most recent posting, Parker should arrive home in a few days.

More than 250 military families have had their homes renovated with the help of Heroes at Home. If you want to help or donate, you can get more information at the website. Also, see this website for more information on helping bring Parker home.
