For Rent: The Shirt Off My Back
They say it takes money to make money. Well, enterprising marketer Jason Stadler thinks it only takes the shirt on your back. Stadler started the site IWearYourShirt.com, where he wears a different company's T-shirt every day and promotes the brand.
Sadler will post daily about your shirt on Twitter, Facebook, his own blog and upload videos to Upstream.tv and Youtube (below). In exchange, companies pay the "face value" of that calendar date. So on Jan. 1, you pay $1. on December 31, you pay $365. Already, he's had names like Zappos, Intuit and Prudential sign up. And he's sold out for the rest of 2009.
So why would you pay to have some guy wear your shirt? Sadler is in marketing already and works from home so he has the time and the experience to get your brand out there. Mostly, though, he was the first one to come up with this rent-the-shirt-off-your-back gimmick, which may be the best selling point of all. He's taking reservations for 2010 and FYI, he wears an extra large.
