I'm Too Sexy for Your Dog
If you're in the Miami area tomorrow night and are looking for something fun to do, skip a trip to South Beach and head straight to the dogs.
March 27, in Coconut Grove, Cabana One Lounge and Pool Club is hosting Rescues Rock the Runway, a unique rooftop fashion show. The event is a fundraiser for Paws 4 You Rescue, a Miami-based nonprofit animal rescue group; instead of lanky models, a large handful of dogs — including Jessica, the pooch that's pictured — will be walking the catwalk … or, more accurately, the dogwalk.
Instead of designer dresses, the animals will be wearing tanks and shirts by TORU, a company that specializes in adorable rocker tees for dogs, emblazoned with slogans like "woofalicious" and "stud muffin." TORU will debut its new line, Rescue Wear, which earmarks 15 percent of proceeds to Paws 4 You Rescue. There's an entry fee of $25 for the fashion show that is also being donated to the animal rescue organization.
Paws 4 You Rescue's priority is saving animals from euthanasia — a big problem in Miami, where up to 150 pets are put to sleep by animal services on an average day. The nonprofit also provides extensive veterinary care to animals in need, and helps find boarding facilities and foster homes for pets that are waiting to be adopted. Paws 4 You Rescue's staff, which is made up of volunteers, also does plenty of outreach in the community to help find homes for abandoned animals and educate people on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets.
In true Miami style, the event promises to have a party feel, with a live DJ, beverages and passed hors d'oevres served before the models bark their way down the runway. If you're in the market for a festive Friday night activity that also helps make a difference, with this event you're definitely barking up the right tree.
