In Defense of The eBay WTF of the Day

I feel I must make an official statement in regards to my very favorite column to write: The eBay WTF of the Day.

"Annie," you might say, "Tonic is 'the place where good lives.' You are just bashing random people's crap from eBay. What's good about that? It's actually quite negative."

"Well, Sarah," I would reply if your name is Sarah, "I disagree." Here's why:

The eBay WTF of the Day is an important addition to the online community. Online, as in life, if there is no one out there calling us on our crap, we will run amok. A company like eBay cannot go unchecked. If there is no one to expose and appreciate-by-mockery the atrocities that people find and/or make in their homes and then attempt to sell us for reasonable prices, then the general public will never know about them (I mean ... look at these boxers). Furthermore, I would add that the general public was an under-served community until the eBay WTF of the Day. This is a public service, and it is well documented that it has entertained far more people than it has offended.

And that is good.
