Inside & Out: Jessica Simpson

"I was so moved by the eight cultures I explored for my new show. The women I met were so incredibly different in their customs and traditions but there was a common thread between them in their beauty.  I was inspired to write the theme song for the show to reflect what I observed- that there is a unique beauty that lies within each of us, flaws and all. Our hearts, our souls, our passions are what make us each beautiful." -- Jessica Simpson

She's only human: After a full-on media assault (for wearing "questionably flattering" jeans) Jessica Simpson didn't apologize or go on a diet or get a make-over. Instead, she remained true to herself and kept showing up for her music and her fans. But, even the most confident among us would likely struggle under such cruel scrutiny. At the very least one might ask, "What's this obsession with beauty all about?" A different kind of world tour: To find out Simpson went trotting the globe with best friends Ken Paves and CaCee Cobb. The trio searched for the meaning of beauty in different cultures and reveal their adventures on VH1 reality series Jessica Simpson's The Price of Beauty. The good, the bad and the ugly: The journey reveals remarkable differences in how beauty is defined around the world — and at what cost women will go to achieve it. (The nasty tabs might want to know that in Africa, Jessica is too thin to even be considered to be a bride.) Above all, the show strives to raise awareness around the critical issue of body image facing women in the US, and to help girls and women come to love what they see in the mirror.

At a glance:

In the US, as many as 10 million females and 1 million males are battling a life and death  eating disorder such as anorexia or bulimia. Millions more are struggling with binge  eating disorder.
