iPhone and Verizon, Don't Tease Us
If you're an iPhone user and have a taste for unofficial reports, do I have a little gem for you. From a Computerworld article, "Apple will launch a smaller 'world mode' iPhone next year that will be ready for Verizon Wireless to sell in the third quarter of 2010, according to an analyst report citing unnamed handset maker sources in Taiwan." (Gasp)
Now, as I've mentioned here before, I'm an iPhone owner. I love pretty much everything about it except for one thing: the coverage. I mean, I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, which one would assume would have one of the highest number of iPhone users per capita in the country. You would think, therefore, there would be coverage to fill that need. In my honest opinion, mine has been pretty good, but I'm forced to believe it can be better, because my calls have dropped enough (or been unable to connect in the first place) that I've noticed. I was with Sprint for a decade and had less problems than I've had so far with AT&T.
I understand that with the popularity of the iPhone and all the people using it, valuable resources are being used up (especially because it's Web-enabled), and cell coverage isn't limitless, as much as we would all love it to be. Maybe AT&T underestimated just how popular the iPhone would be and are still scrambling. That's my best guess, but I'm by no means an expert.
All that said, everything I've heard about Verizon's coverage is that it's really good (even before their "There's a map for that" ad campaign not-so-subtlely poking fun at the iPhone). So when I read about this potential pairing, I'll admit I got a little excited. But because this is just speculation at this point, I won't be holding my breath.
Yet.
