Jared Leto Ready to Rock Again
Mars attacks! At least that's impression from the title of 30 Seconds to Mars' "This Is War," the new album due in stores Nov. 24.
Actor Jared Leto ("Fight Club," "Chapter 27") added rock star to his resume a few years ago when his sophomore album, "A Beautiful Lie," turned into a multi-platinum success with hit singles like "The Kill" and "From Yesterday." The actor-singer took his time recording his follow-up, but "This Is War" is finally ready to strike as lead single "Kings and Queens" fires the first salvo early next month. The new disc is produced by powerhouse duo Flood and Steve Lillywhite, whose combined credits include U2, NIN, Depeche Mode and the Rolling Stones.
And since it's going to be a war, Leto wants you! That's right, he's recruiting fans to submit individual photos of themselves on the band website, and a full 2,000 of these photos will be used to make 2,000 different "This Is War" album covers. That's right, this is your chance to be featured on a major album cover, so make the photo count!
Leto, who rounds out the band with his brother Shannon on drums and Tomo Milicevic on guitar, also found ways to include fans in the actual audio recordings. The band invited fans to "Summit" events where they were recorded for inclusion on the album. The first event occurred at the Avalon Club in Hollywood, but they soon spread to Australia, Italy, Germany, France, Japan, the U.K. and Canada. The group later launched a Digital Summit in which fans could record sounds and vocals on their computers and phones and submit them to the group.
It's been a long wait for Mars' third album, but Leto & Co. are back and ready for war. But unlike a fight with little green men, this Martian attack will be welcomed with open ears.
