Jenny Sanford Officially Kicks Cheatin' Husband to the Curb
In a move sure to be lauded by scorned women nationwide, South Carolina First Lady Jenny Sanford has officially filed for divorce.
The woman nearly universally praised for refusing to stand by her man announced Friday that she is officially, formally not reconciling with Gov. Mark Sanford, who infamously disappeared in June to visit his lover in Argentina, all the while telling people he was off hiking the Appalachian Trail.
"I am now filing for divorce," she said in a statement, according to ABC News. "This came after many unsuccessful efforts at reconciliation, yet I am still dedicated to keeping the process that lies ahead peaceful for our family."
Mrs. Sanford participated in her first television interview this week when she sat down with Barbara Walters, who deemed her one of the 10 Most Fascinating People of the Year.
Displaying the confidence people have praised her for since the scandal broke, the First Lady told Walters, "It's been a crazy year ... Certainly his actions hurt me, and they caused consequences for me, but they don't in any way take away my own self-esteem. They reflect poorly on him." You go, girl!
Sanford also confirmed that she found out about her husband's dalliances in January, and she and her four children moved out of the governor's mansion in August. She also revealed in now expected tough-chick fashion that the governor never asked her to participate in the June press conference in which he confessed to his cheating. And that's a good thing because, "I wouldn't have. If he had asked me, I would have said no."
So kudos to you, Jenny Sanford, for standing up for yourself when your man treats you like crap. You're an inspiration to your gender. Seriously.
