Jewel Seeks Funds for Clean Water
Clean drinking water is only a dream for many people in the developing world. According to estimates from UNICEF, every day 4,000 children die in the world from complications for drinking contaminated water. It's a problem of epic proportions, but every drop of clean water helps save lives.
The singer Jewel has long been an activist for progress on getting clean water to people who need it. She is helping Virgin Unite Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Richard Branson's Virgin Group, find people to match $20,000 the foundation is donating to the Project Clean Water's Give A Drop campaign, which works to provide water to 30 villages in 13 countries on five continents.
"I founded Project Clean Water in 1997 to help provide clean water to some of these communities," Jewel said on her website. "Through the Give A Drop campaign, Virgin Unite has generously offered to match all online donations made to Project Clean Water, up to $20,000, through the end of March. Donations have already started to come in. If 7,500 more people give just $2.00 we can meet this goal and bring clean water to those in need."
Every drop of money and water alike helps change lives.
