Keeping the Peace With Your Heart
Next time you're in line at McDonald's, looking at Big Macs, double cheeseburgers and large fries (about to engage in what I call "total heart warfare"), grab a couple extra packets of ketchup and swallow an Ateronon. Your heart will thank you for it.BBC News reported on a new dietary supplement created by Cambridge Theranostics Ltd., a spin-off company of Cambridge University that utilizes lycopene, an active ingredient and antioxidant in tomatoes that can stave off heart disease and strokes. Ateronon is being launched shortly after more effectiveness tests are done, but preliminary tests have been very effective. The supplement is said to help beat heart troubles before they hit by blocking bad LDL cholesterol that can clog your arteries.Early trials with around 150 people with heart disease testing the drug indicate that Ateronon can reduce the oxidation of harmful fats in the blood to almost zero within eight weeks. Neuroscientist Peter Kirkpatrick, who will lead a further research project at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge on behalf of Cambridge Theranostics Ltd., said the supplement could be much more effective than prescribed drugs that are currently used by doctors to treat high cholesterol.Sounds great, and if Ateronon hits the market soon, it would be wise for most of our country to invest.
