Kelly Preston, Elizabeth Edwards and Susan St. James on Child Loss
After suffering the heartbreaking loss of her son Jett, Kelly Preston is expected to discuss for the first time the tragedy along with Susan St. James and Elizabeth Edwards this fall when the women lead a "Grief & Resilience” panel at the California Governor’s Conference for Women in late October.
The conference, hosted by California First Lady Maria Shriver and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, grew from a California initiative for working professionals into an international network of women. Designed to let women become the "Architects of Change" in their own lives, the conference is a two-day event filled with motivational speakers and inspirational sessions.
Preston has kept quiet as she continues to mourn the loss of 16-year-old Jett — along with husband, John Travolta. Their son died following a seizure while on vacation with the family in the Bahamas this past January. Jett was believed to be autistic and/or suffer from Kawasaki disease.
Elizabeth Edwards, who has had her own share of tragedy and redemption, is expected to discuss her continuing battle with cancer and the loss of her son Wade, who was killed in April 1996 in a car accident just three weeks after being honored by the White House as a finalist in a National Endowment for the Humanities essay contest.
Actress Susan St. James and husband Dick Ebersol had recently reconciled their marriage when a plane carrying Ebersol and their sons Charles and Teddy crashed killing Teddy, their youngest child.
“If she can empower one other woman who feels like they can’t get out of bed, or get through the day, whatever the loss, it’ll be worthwhile sharing her story,” California First Lady Maria Shriver told People.com.
