Ladies Bringing the iPod Auction Heat
As I write this, Bill Clinton's iPod auction is closing out, with the winning bid at $2,246! So now we know — Clinton's playlist tickles your fancy more than Brit-Brit curiosity gets your goat.
But the hits keep coming. The pressure's on to step it up for the blondest bombshell that Gen Y has to offer. That's right: Miss Scarlett herself is posing, signing, lining up tracks and passing them off to you, all in the name of making music lovers smile. Music Rising may be the ostensible beneficiary, but let's get real — one high bidder is gonna make off with a starlet signature extraordinaire. You can start bidding on Monday, March 16.
So I may be painfully predictable, but I am dying to know if ScarJo has stocked her playlist with Tom Waits songs, given that she recorded a whole album of Waits covers last year. Is she strictly a sucker for gritty, gravel-voiced storytellers ... or will she surprise us with a little Katy Perry-style pop?
Mandy Moore — that pop tart turned legit career-builder — is also on deck for the 16th. Seeing as how homegirl just got hitched to indie icon Ryan Adams (do NOT call him Bryan Adams), I'm curious if she's all poetry and folk these days. Or will she steal a page from her ex's playbook and rock some DJ AM-quality dance tunes? Oh, the mysteries to be revealed!
The growing-up-fast, no-longer-tween set will want to get their paws on Hilary Duff's iPod, also launching on March 16.
Of course, there's still time to score Laurie Jupiter's iPod. Malin Akerman, the smokin' superhero from the unstoppable Watchmen, swings effortlessly from Bob Marley to Feist to Nine Inch Nails. Her player is currently sitting at a bargain $150.
Bid away! As always, we'll keep you posted on the big winners and the newcomers. NOLA music lovers thank you.
