Last Week's Three Small Acts of Kindness

Guest Post by Nipun Mehta from CharityFocus Blog Nipun Mehta is a great friend of Tonic and we are pleased that he shares content about all things good from his CharityFocus Blog. You will occasionally see Nipun's contributions here, and all he asks is that you help "pay it forward" as you will see people do in these posts. We hope they inspire you as much as they have us!

Last time Rev. Heng Sure spoke at our event, he brought the illustrated meditation handbooks (above) as gifts for everyone. Santosh picked up a copy, but being a mother of two, it stayed on her bookshelf. Until yesterday, when her 2-year-old Anya picks it up and ask her mom to read it to her! At the end of the reading, Anya asks her mom if they can try it. So they meditate ... for 40 seconds.  After a slight pause, Anya concludes, "We should try it again another time."

Pankaj tells his 9-year-old son that he won't be around on Friday: "I'm going to visit my friend Nipun."  Who's he? "He helps others with small acts of kindness." Who takes care of him? "He takes care of others and others take care of him. That's how karma works." Ravi, the 9-year-old, runs inside and brings back a $10 bill: "Can you give this to your friend?" Dad was stunned, knowing that was all his son had. A bit later, Ravi comes back to add, "Dad, Dad, I found some more change. This is all I could find, but make sure to tell him that this is for his groceries."

Last week, I saw a handwritten note pinned up on my mom's refrigerator: "The heart that grows in your home grows around me each week. Many people are graced by love from you and your Divine Heart. Love." Wow. "Who wrote this?" I ask my mom. "I don't know, but I found after last Wednesday, in the bathroom." Sure enough, it was written on a piece of toilet paper. :)

A small gift leads to 40 seconds of meditation, a nine year old practices generosity, a bathroom holds space for expressions of gratitude — what a blessing it is to be held by a field of ripple effects!
