Make a Run with Mya
Most people know Mya as a Grammy-winning, platinum-selling singing star that recently appeared on "Dancing With the Stars," but they may not know she's a big supporter of breast cancer-related charities. You can see this support in action on Sunday when she headlines the Run 4 Her Life 5K / 10K fundraiser for Breast Cancer Research in Los Angeles.
The event kicks off at 8 AM at The Americana at Brand in Glendale. Registration for the run is $35 in advance and $45 the day of with all proceeds going to breast cancer research. Participants will receive a Run 4 Her Life t-shirt and gift bag and entrance into the Mya concert event.
"We are grateful to be a part of this event to raise funds for breast cancer research," said Michael Press, M.D., Ph.D., professor of pathology at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and the Harold E. Lee Chair for Cancer Research at USC Norris Cancer Center. "As we learn more about the molecular and genetic causes of breast cancer, we are positioned to attack this deadly disease at its origin and to prevent its development in thousands of women."
Run 4 Her Life is also highlighting its green cred by using bib numbers made from seed paper that runners can actually plant after the event.
Mya, who will headline the after-party, is founder of the nonprofit TMAFT: The Mya Arts & Tech Foundation, a former spokesperson for Secret to Self Esteem and part of Lifetime Television's Stop Breast Cancer for Life campaign. Mya's mother is a 10-year breast cancer survivor.
Other performing artists include Lili Haydn, The Quiet, Jordan Johnson and Margie Hauser.
