Making Social Action as Easy as Ordering Pizza

Face it, you're getting tired of the same old charities, volunteer organizations and soup kitchens. You're ready for something new, something different, and something where you can really contribute to a cause that you really care about — you know, like pizza.

Welcome to Social Actions, a site where you can search for places to volunteer, donate, sign a petition, make a loan and lots more.

To test the site, I searched for “pizza” thinking I’d get a blank search results page. Instead, I got 72 search results related to how I can do good in this world through pizza.

For example, I found petition I can sign to make sure every restaurant has a recyclable garbage can alongside their normal trash can. Also, I found a group in Georgia who wants to stop burning coal and start using clean energy for their state. They support their cause by holding pizza nights. That right there is good enough reason to visit Georgia. One last pizza example, Big Brothers and Big Sisters are needed to, you guessed it, share a pizza with Little Brothers and Sisters.

If you can’t think of anything to search for, Social Actions provides a quick list of the most popular searches including Climate Change, Education, Poverty, Darfur, Healthcare, etc. The site posts a guide to over 50 different action sources such as Kiva, DonorsChoose.org, Change.org, Nabuur.org, DemocracyinAction, GlobalGiving, Idealist.org, SixDegrees, VolunteerMatch and Care2.

Socialactions.com is not only geared for those who want to participate in an existing group, but it is helpful for those who want to start their own group. The site offers consultants to work with you in building and social networking your own site. They work with foundations, companies, nonprofits, and individuals to engage more people to make an even bigger difference. If you need help building your own site, they have helpful suggestions on how to find a developer who does pro-bono work. They also have an extensive API to help you enhance your currently existing site.

There’s a lot of everything on this site for everyone from volunteers, to donators, to developers. Chances are that if you’re looking to make a difference, you’ll find how to do it on socialactions.com. For me, I’m going out for pizza, and they’d better have a recycle bin available!
