Man Scarfs Down 33 Burritos in 10 Minutes
Yes, you read that right. Thirty-three-and-a-half burritos. In ten minutes. An average of 3.3 burritos every 60 seconds. We're impressed, but our stomachs are aching just thinking about it.
According to a New York Daily News story, professional eater "Humble Bob" Shoudt won the 2009 World Burrito eating championship at the New Mexico State Fair on Friday. For shoveling down 33.5, 4-oz spicy beef burritos, Shoudt took home $1,500 -- and the glory of winning another International Federation of Competitive Eating-sponsored event.
Shoudt's a big name in the Major League Eating circuit (yes, there is such a thing). For these folks, eating isn't for enjoyment -- it's for sport. Shoudt didn't eat for two days to prepare for the burrito-eating contest, and right after, he flew out to Louisiana to compete in a grits-eating competition. At past events, Shoudt has wolfed down 35 beef brisket sandwiches in 10 minutes and 39 hamburgers in two minutes.
Shoudt should feel pretty proud of himself for training his stomach to handle a seriously impressive amount of vittles. But as for us, we prefer our burritos in single doses with a margarita on the side.
